Zusammenfassung:	The fixed central padding (4) for the steering unit comprises a body (29) with means (26,28) for its mounting at the rear end of the steering column. A control part (40) for vehicle operating equipment is connected to the body by a link. The link has a first degree of freedom which allows the control part to move relative to the body between rest and active positions about a rotational axis (A1). It has a second degree of freedom which allows the control part to move relative to the body between rest and a second active position about a second rotational axis (A2).
