MECHANISM OF ACTION : Retinal pericyte apoptosis inhibitor; Antioxidant; Phosphatidylcholine phospholipase C inhibitor; Acid sphingomyelinase inhibitor; Caspase inhibitor. In tests in cultured bovine pericytes, tricyclo (5,21,0(2,6)) decyl-9(8)-xanthate (D609) (Ia) at a concentration of 9.4 MicroM inhibited advanced glycosylation end product (AGE)-methylglyoxal induced ceramide production by 95%, diacyl glycerol (DAG) production by 80% and apoptosis by 40%.
