The headlight for a motor vehicle has a mask (10) which pivots to follow the path of the road in front of the vehicle using an adjuster (30). The mask has an adjuster for pivoting around a horizontal axis. A sensor detects a malfunction of the mask and selectively reduces the power to the lamp (14).
