In the hob assembly at least one of the two components (61, 62) of the surround (6) comprises an elastomeric over-molding. Preferred features: The surround is molded plastic, the polymer resin resisting temperatures of 180 deg C or more. It is directly molded over the vitreous ceramic hob or bonding is employed. The surround includes openings, over which elastomer (67, 68) control buttons are overmolded. The overmolding is a profile (72, 73). Each of its components is an elastomer profile. The vertical section of the surround includes brackets and recesses. The elastomer profile extending to the edge of the panel includes a lip (71).
