Zusammenfassung: | Crop plants of the family Compositae whose cytoplasm contains mitochondria contg. DNA which is at least partly derived from another species of Compositae and is a carrier of cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) are new. Also claimed are seeds and plant parts derived from such plants. The donor species is a Helianthus, Cirsium, Chrysanthemum, Senecio, Centaurea, Sonchus, Hieracium, Tagetes, Dahlia or Aster sp., esp. Helianthus annuus, which provides petiolaris-type CMS. The recipient has a normal species-specific chloroplast and nuclear genome and is rendered phenotypically male-sterile.
