VARIETE HYBRIDE F1 MALE-STERILE DE TABAC DE TYPE BURLEY "ITB 2201" DESTINEE A LA PRODUCTION INDUSTRIELLE DE FEUILLES DE TABAC

New variety of Burley type tobacco. The invention relates to a new sterile male F1 hybrid variety of tobacco of the Burley type identified by the varietal name "ITB 2201". It was obtained by crossing between the sterile male tobacco variety "MS 220", obtained from a local selection from an American cultivar called "Kentucki" and maintained by backcrossing with the variety ITB 220, and the fertile tobacco line "BBA46" maintained by self-fertilisation. It is characterised mainly by the purplish red colour (ref. RHS 66-D) of its flowers, a rather open angle of insertion of the leaves, a highly developed plant of size intermediate between conical and ovoid and differs from the reference variety BB16 by a better yield, a lower level of alkaloids and a higher quality index. It is of great interest in the tobacco industry because of its production of a high quality raw material in particular in the top leaves.
