Zusammenfassung:Method of chemical stabilisation of a viscosity improver comprising a polyacrylamide obtained by polymerisation of monomers with the aid of a catalyst of radical type, characterised in that there is introduced into the preparation of this viscosity improver an excess, in relation to the quantity of catalyst which is chosen to obtain the polymer, of a monomer capable of reacting with this catalyst, this excess of monomer being introduced either before or after polymerisation, so as to remove any residual trace of catalyst, which is a cause of chemical degradation of polyacrylamides.
