Process for hydroconversion of a heavy hydrocarbon feedstock

Process for hydroconversion and demetallisation of an asphaltenic hydrocarbon heavy liquid feedstock, in which a mixture of the feedstock with hydrogen is circulated concurrently upwards, the said mixture containing catalyst particles originating from the decomposition, either in the hydroconversion zone or upstream thereof, of a catalyst precursor which is soluble or dispersible in the feedstock, characterised in that a lengthwise gradient of the concentration of solid particles and of the size of the said particles is maintained in the hydroconversion zone.
