Zusammenfassung: | The invention relates to metallurgy. The converter which is the subject of the invention is of the type with a cylindrical body 1 provided, on its cylindrical wall, with a spout 2 serving for the introduction of the materials, for the discharge of the liquid products and for the exit of the technological gases, the said spout being arranged symmetrically with respect to the vertical plane of symmetry of the converter, and provided, moreover, with oxidation blowing blast pipes 3 mounted in the cylindrical body 1 in a row along its generatrix, at a certain distance from the spout 2, and is characterised in that the blast pipes are mounted with left-hand and right-hand inclination with respect to the vertical plane of symmetry of the converter, the angle alpha between this plane and each vertical plane passing through the axis of a blast pipe 3 being from 10 to 25 DEG . The invention may be used, particularly, for converting mattes of copper, crude mattes of nickel, of copper-nickel and polymetallic mattes with different contents of non-ferrous metals from the starting mattes.
