Float operated stop valves for water supplies to domestic equipment

A safety device to interrupt a pressurised liq. supply in case of a leak comprises a coaxial pipe (6) surrounding the supply line (3) to collect any leakage until the level collected rises sufficiently to trip a float-operated (9) switch in chamber (8) at the head of the pipe (6). The float may operate a stopvalve (2) in (3) directly, via a lever (11), or indirectly, interrupting the power (18) to a solenoid (19) otherwise holding the valve (2) open. Pref. to cope with a leak outside the confines of (6) and (8), a general catch tray (14) extends under the apparatus concerned so that spillage collected therein will lift another switch float (15) and thus release the/another solenoid for a stop valve (2,13) in the supply line (3,4).
