Zusammenfassung:	In a machine tool, machining operation can be effected by a tool carrier (9) on workpieces held in a chuck (4) of a first spindle (3) and a chuck of a second spindle (14) coaxial with and opposed to the first spindle (3). A spindle housing (13) mounting the spindle (14) can be indexed through 180 DEG about an axis normal to the axis (10) of the first (3) and second (14) spindles so that the workpiece held in the chuck of the spindle (14) can be machined by a tool carrier (17). The housing (13) may have a workpiece carrier at each of its ends.
