The invention relates to a device for supporting an animal. According to the invention, it comprises an elongated support frame 12 which can engage with a lifting means and an elongated transverse member 3 at each end, suspension elements 32 hanging from the ends of the members 30, two elongated laterally spaced members 14 supported by the members 32, a brace 16 mounted along its lateral edges on the elongated members, and comprising end flaps 18, 22, slings 26 associated with the flaps and capable of being attached and detached at one end of the elongated members, the flaps being supported in a longitudinally extended position by the slings when they are attached to the associated ends of the elongated members, in order thus to define openings for receiving the legs, and in use, the brace is fitted underneath an animal, each of whose legs extends through the associated opening so that when the support is lifted, the weight of the animal is taken up in the region of the interior of the top of each of its legs. The invention applies in particular to holding livestock in the upright position in the case of illness or immobilisation.
