Moving float liq. level indicator for vehicle fuel tank - has spring to intercept and counterbalance float at end of travel

The device indicates the level of a liquid in a reservoir, in particular, the fuel level in the tank of a vehicle. It has a float with a sliding electrical contact which slides in a tubular element which is placed inside the tank. A guiding element for the float has an electrical resistance on which the sliding contact slides. A fixed electrical contact is placed at the lower end of the tube and cooperates with a moving electrical contact on the float. The lower end of the tube has an elastic mechanism such as a spring which may also be the fixed contact and which intercepts the float at a predetermined distance from the base. The mechanism balances the weight of the float when it is found in a first end of travel position at the base. There may also be a second elastic mechanism at the upper end of the tube which intercepts the float at a predetermined distance from the upper wall of the tube and completely balances a hydrostatic thrust equal to the weight of the volume of liquid displaced by the float when it is found in a second end of travel position.
