Double elliptical solar collector - has heat pipe absorber inclined at angle to semi-elliptical mirrors

The solar collector (1) is constructed from two semi-elliptical mirrors (2,3) whose major axes are parallel and separated by a distance equal to the diameter of the heat pipe (6). The major axes are tangential to the heat pipe, which is located at the 'focal' point of the collector. The collector is fixed at an angle to the horizontal, equal to the mean angle between the altitude of the sun at the summer and winter solstices. A tank of collectors can be grouped in parallel with a continuous heat pipe passage through in series. The unit can be enclosed in a glass fronted, casing to provide a 'greenhouse' effect.
