Zusammenfassung:Long lengths of ferrous wire, strip and ribbon are continuously heat treated electrically. The strip is unwound, passed through electric contacts, and heated first in air and then in liq. at a rate of at least 1000 degrees C per second. It is heated in air up to the temp. at which vapour begins to form at the surface of metal in contact with the liquid. Cooling continues in the same liquid, the length of prod. cooling surrounded by vapour given by (I) where l is length in metres. V is speed in metres per second. t1is temp. to which it is heated. t2 is temp. to which it must be cooled (both in degrees C). and V1 the rate of cooling in the liquid degrees C per second. Process permits the continuous treatment of long lengths of ferrous strip etc., with uniform properties and surface quality. The product is particularly suitable for use in continuous processes involving plastic deformation.
