Zusammenfassung: | Alignment of a splice in a multistrand fibre optic cable is ensured by using an ancillary core piece (11) with a coaxial bore (14) to accept the core wire (2) of the cable, (7) and superficial longitudinal grooves (12) to accept the individual optical cables (6). The core and optical strands of one cable end are exposed together with a shorter length of the cables own support core (3) and aligned with the core piece using a radially toothed collar (10). Short sleeves (25, 26) are fitted on either side of the junction between the cable core and the ancillary core, and the junction then enveloped using a hardenable resin injected using a suitable enclosure. The other end of the joint is secured in similar fashion. The injected sheath (28) provides more slid alignment than use of heat shrinkable sleeves which may include stress differentials.
