Zusammenfassung: | Ceramic cutting material having a mean grain size of 1-2 micron consists of 0-20 (0.25-17) pref. 8-12% rare earth metal oxide or yttrium oxide; 0-20 (0.25-15) pref. 5-10% chromium oxide; 0-2 (0-2) pref. 0.25-0.75% magnesia, balance alumina. The material has increased durability on high speed cutting, high mechanical strength and heat resistance. Specifically, it has a heat resistance at 250-500 deg.C 1.25-2.5 times higher than prior art ceramic cutting material and a cutting durability of 50-60 mins., i.e. 1.5-2 times higher than prior art.
