An apparatus for operating electrolysers employing pre-baked anodes consists of a three-beam bridge with a travelling carriage, a crane bogie and a trolley being mounted on said bridge. The lower part of the trolley supports a container which is linked via a rotating mechanism to the rotatable part of the cabin column, on which cabin a mechanism for lifting the blocks and a mechanism for operating the block clamps are mounted. Mounted on the rotatable part of the cabin (6) column are also a mechanism (49) for filling the electrolyser, a mechanism (61) for breaking through the electrolytic skin and a bar screen device (76). The mechanism (49) for loading the electrolyser forms, on the one hand, a metering device (50) which is mounted in the lower part of the fixed container (5) and, on the other hand, a two-way filling mechanism (51) which is mounted on the rotatable part of the cabin (6) column. Also provided are a mechanism (61) for breaking through the electrolytic skin, which is formed by a tilting device (73) and a pushing-out device (74), and a bar screen device (76), which form a tilting mechanism (90), a pushing-out device and a digging-out unit (92).
