Foam flotation sepn. of silica from iron ores - using water dispersible aliphatic ether amine or salt as collector

Silica is sepd. from an iron ore by foaming the ore in an aq.medium in presence of 44.6-893 g/t of ore, of a liq. mixt. of water-dispersible aliphatic ether-amines of formula R-O-CH2-CH2-CH2-NH2 (I) (where R is an 8 or 10C methyl-branched aliphatic gp) or of a water-dispersible liq. aliphatic ether-amine of formula R"-O-(R"'-O)z-CH2-CH2-CH2-NH2 (II) (where R" is as R but with 9C, R"' is Et (pref.) or Pr and z is 0-10 pref.1. Pref. the ether-amines are (partly) neutralised with a solubilising anion, pref. acetate anion. Also claimed is a foam flotation collector of formula (II) or its salt. Used for sepg. silica from magnetite, hematite, martite, goethite, phosphate rocks etc. The collector meets all the requirements of a cationic foam flotation collector, e.g. it produces an iron conc. of acceptable quality, gives max. yields and is sufficiently "persistent" to give acceptable results in several successive operations.
