Controlled drying of loose material - by convection and radiation, uses heat transfer agent and infra-red rays

The drying of loose materials, e.g. silk cocoons, raw cotton or cottonseeds is carried out in a drying chamber by blowing them with a heat transfer agent, e.g. heated air, and then cooling them, whilst at the same time irradiating the material with infra-red rays with a max. wave-length of 0.5 to 1.2 micrometers. The duration of each infra-red ray exposure should be from two to ten mins, with intervening rest periods of 10 to 50 mins. The alternation of heat methods, by convection and radiation, provides a heating which is regular throughout the thickness of the material layers, with no superficial over-drying. The final prod. is of good quality.
