Zusammenfassung:Wood charcoal is oxidised at 200-300 deg.C., esp. at 260-290 deg.C. The oxidised charcoal is next heated at 450-700, esp. 550-650 deg.C., in the absence of oxygen, followed by a reoxidn. treatment at 290-330 deg.C. Ion exchangers are used e.g. for the purificn. of chemicals; for the purificn. of brine during the mfr. of C12, thus removing electrolyte poisons; or as catalysts. This method provides a substitute for expensive ion exchangers. Wood charcoal is readily available and inexpensive. Any type of wood may be used to make the charcoal, although the pref woods are birch; aspen; poplar; hornbeam or beech.
