The cage has four sides forming an enclosure for piglets within which is fitted a frame in which the sow is enclosed. It enables the sow to suckle and raise the piglets. The cage has at least one longitudinal side and a rear side which can be opened and closed. The front side of the cage is fixed and carries a small feeding trough which can be moved laterally, turned up and locked in position. The frame has side members and a closed end and limits the movement of the sow. Cages are arranged in rows and a service passage is used for entry and exit of the sows.
