Rheology modifiers esp. for plastisols - prepd. by reacting a phosphoric acid with hydroxyl-contg. cpd. and neutralising with inorganic cpd

Phosphoric ester derivs. are prepd. by reacting phosphoric anhydride, polyphosphoric acid, or orthophosphoric acid with an organic deriv. (A), then neutralizing with an excess of an inorganic cpd. (B). (A) contains >=1 OH gp., and is a 1-22C, pref. 8-18C, alcohol, a phenol, pref. an alkylphenol,...

Zusammenfassung:Phosphoric ester derivs. are prepd. by reacting phosphoric anhydride, polyphosphoric acid, or orthophosphoric acid with an organic deriv. (A), then neutralizing with an excess of an inorganic cpd. (B). (A) contains >=1 OH gp., and is a 1-22C, pref. 8-18C, alcohol, a phenol, pref. an alkylphenol, or a glyceride, each of which can opt. be oxyethylated. (B) is the oxide and/or hydroxide and/or carbonate of Ca, Mg or Ba. (A) is pref. an oxyethylated or oxypropylated alcohol, an octyl-, nonyl-, or dodecylphenol, partic. oxyalkylated, or a naphthol, partic. beta-naphthol condensed with 8.5 moles ethylene oxide, or castor oil, opt. oxyalkylated. The molar ratio (A):P2O5 is pref. 2-4 and of (A):polyphosphoric acid 1-1-2. The excess of (B) is pref. 100 equivs-g per equiv-g acid, partic. 2-20. The neutralisation can be effected in the presence of bubbling CO2. Properties such as dilatance, thixotropy, rheopexy, plasticity and different memory phenomena can be altered by the cpds., which can also act as thickeners. They are used at 0.05-10, pref. 0.1-5, wt.% w.r.t. the treated plastisols, and can be incorporated with the plastisol in an organic medium.
