Zusammenfassung:Ajmaline derivs. of formula (I) (where R1 is a cardenolide or bufadienolide residue; X is halogen; R is H, acyl or alkyl, pref. with 1-5C), are new. Cpds. (I) have anti-arrhythmic and cardiotonic activity. A typical cpd. (I) is strophanthidine-3-O-acetyl-2'-N(b)-ajmaline bromide. In an example, this was prepd. by reacting strophanthidine with bromoacetyl bromide and reacting the prod. with ajmaline.
