Zusammenfassung:Large engines are cooled using a natural draught cooling tower, the media being cooled passing through a heat exchanger (26). The draught in the tower is assisted using engine exhaust gases which are mixed with the heated cooling air. Thus, the cooling effect produced by the tower can be modified by regulating the engine exhaust gas flow to it. The exhaust gas is fed into the base of the cooling tower by pipes which have distribution orifices directed towards the tower centre. The pipes (29) are placed just radially inward of the heat exchanger and receive the exhaust gas via an underground duct (30).
