Multistrand core cords for multiline optical cables - to provide support for each optical line at terminal splays

Cables contain gps.of optical fibres together with a multistrand coaxial traction cord, where sufficient strands exist in the central cord to provide at least one supporting strand for each of the optical cords if the latter are splayed to separate terminal points at the end of the cable. The central traction cord and the optical fibres pref. have an integral plastic sheath. The core cable strands are multifilament cords of continuous glass, polyamide or polyester filaments. Glass cord may be held in a polymeric matrix (melamine based). Support for terminal branches reduces risk of breakage of optical fibres. The non-metallic construction is suitable for certain military applications.
