System controlling length of bar cut by continuous cutter - has regulator in cascade control chain and cutter move on which bar speed and buffer station depend

The electromechanical mensuration control system is for use on a machine which continuously cuts e.g. bars (3) into specified equal lengths. The machine accepts a linearly displacing bar (3) into a similarly displaceable cutting (10) chariot (1). The system measures bar speed, sets up compatible chariot motion, and uses signals from a chariot mounted buffer (9) to synchronise the two displacements whence the cut is authorized. The bar speed may be measured by a tachometer (11), the speed value transmitted to control, and the chariot displaced in accordance with the relationship between the buffer (9) and its datum. The bar encounters the buffer which is displaced and further corrective chariot motion effected.
