Zusammenfassung: | Safety bumper for a maintenance engine or vehicle obtd. by hot extruding an alloy contg. by wt. 0.6-0.9% Si, 0.4-0.7% Mg, 0.15-0.30% Fe, 0.05-0.20% Cu, 0.05-0.15% Cr, =0.5% Mn, =0.20% Zn, =0.10% Ti, bal Al, is made by first homogenising 4-12 hrs at 54-600 degrees C, cooling at 100-250 degrees C/hr. reheating to 450-540 degrees C, hot extruding in an extrusion press and quenching at >150 degrees C/min, then tempering at 150-200 degrees C for 4-12 hrs., and is designed so that its protruding part has a higher moment of inertia than the other parts. The cross section is esp. tubular with the protruding part thicker than the other walls and opt. reinforced by ribs. The bumper conforms to the rigid US standard for shock resistance at low speeds, while being formable in a single piece without weld joints, nuts and bolts or other fastenings. |
