Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:1440737 Preparation of fibrous polymer compositions TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 6 Sept 1974 [8 Sept 1973 5 Oct 1973 (2)] 39123/74 Heading C3P A paper-forming fibrous material is produced by (A) preparing an emulsion in which the dispersed phase is a solution of one or more poly-alpha-olefins in an organic solvent, and the dispersion medium is a non-solvent for the polyolefin(s) and is incompatible with the organic solvent, and contains as a polymeric surfactant (i) a polymer having repeating units of the formula (ii) a polymer having repeating units of the formula (iii) a polymer having repeating units of the formula and/or (iv) a vinyl monomer/polyvinyl alcohol graft copolymer; wherein in the above formulas each of A and B, is H, a C 1 -C 20 hydrocarbon group, Li, Na, ¢Ca, ¢Mg, ¢Zn or 1/ 3 Al; R 1 represents H or a C 1 -C 30 hydrocarbon group; R 2 represents H, -COOR 3 in which R 3 is as R 1 , an -OCOR 4 group in which R 4 is a C 1 -C 20 hydrocarbon group, a halogen atom, or a -CH 2 OH group; and R 5 represents an OH group, a -CH 2 OH group or an -OCOR 6 group in which R 6 is a C 1 -C 20 hydrocarbon group; and (B) ejecting said emulsified dispersion through an orifice. The following are examples of suitable polymeric surfactants: styrene/maleic anhydride, styrene/sodium maleate, styrene/ alkyl methacrylate/Ca or Na maleate, ethylene/ Na or Ca maleate, ethylene/other olefin/Na or Ca maleate, ethylene/acrylic acid, ethylene/ sodium acrylate, olefin/Na or Ca methacrylate or acrylate, ethylene/vinylacetate, saponified ethylene/vinyl acetate, ethylene/allyl alcohol, or a polyvinyl alcohol on to which has been grafted styrene, vinyl acetate, (meth)acrylic acid or an ester of the latter. Polyolefins specified are polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene/ propylene copolymers, poly-1-butene and poly-4- methyl-1-pentene. Preferred solvents are pentane, hexane heptane, benzene, cyclohexane, methylene dichloride and chloroform. The dispersing medium is preferably water but may also be glycerin or ethylene glycol or mixtures of two or more of these three. The fibres may be mixed with sizing agents and formed into sheets, in the same manner as normal paper pulp.
