The object of the invention is a procedure and a burner for the combustion of fluids and of such solid materials as have a broad particle distribution, under the control and with the aid of a cyclone chamber where the material is fed tangentially into the cyclone chamber 1 together with the air flow, thereby creating a vortex by means of which a selective delay period is introduced for coarse particles by guiding the material flow away from the centre. According to the invention, the air supply is split into two stages: in the first stage, the material to be burned is fed into the cyclone chamber 1 with an air quantity below the stoichiometric value while maintaining the temperature below the ash-melting point; while in the second stage, secondary air is added as a circular flow with the same centre round the flow as goes out of the cyclone chamber.
