A process and a device for stripping electro-deposited metal films from permanent cathodes, which device consists of a rotating carousel for receiving and successively advancing suspended permanent cathodes, which have electro-deposited metal films, to a number of stations along the circumference of the carousel, including a loading station, a hammering station for stripping the upper edges of the metal films from a cathode, an opening station for stripping the metal films from the cathodes, a separating station for separating metal film pairs, and an unloading station for taking away stripped cathodes. The pairs of stripped metal films are preferably taken away via the bottom of a vertical housing which is rotated into a horizontal position for separating the metal films. Expediently, alternate pairs of metal films are also corrugated, and alternating pairs of plane and corrugated metal films are piled into a stack up to a predetermined height and bundled together in order to form a new bundle of metal films which is extremely suitable for smelting.
