The monomer is polymerized in order to form a polymer of low molecular weight, which phase-separates from the organic phase and is concentrated on the surface of the organic phase with the formation of a polymer phase of low molecular weight. A second batch of the organic phase is then introduced into the aqueous phase, when the polymer of low molecular weight reaches a conversion ratio of monomer to polymer which is equal to or less than 80%, with the second batch of the organic phase comprising a crosslinking monomer and with the crosslinking monomer being absorbed in the polymer phase of low molecular weight. Further polymerization produces a hollow polymer latex particle.
