A device for picking up piece goods (1) comprising a pick-up (5; 94; 166; 188; 196; 201; 205; 222) carried by a manoeuvering device (9) and movable under an item (1) to be picked up, wherein the pick-up (5; 94; 166; 188; 196; 201; 205; 222) comprises a frame (20), wherein at least one upper conveying element (90), cooperating with the item (1) to be picked up, is movably mounted in the frame (20), wherein the at least one upper conveying element (90) defines an upper conveying surface (92), wherein also at least one lower conveying element (91), cooperating with a support under the item (1) to be picked up, is movably mounted in the frame (20), wherein the at least one lower conveying element (91) defines a lower conveying surface (93), characterised in that the at least one upper conveying element (90) and the at least one lower conveying element (91) are nested into each other at least at one end of the device facing towards the item (1) to be picked up, and that the upper conveying surface (92) extends out beyond the lower conveying surface (93) in the direction of the item (1) to be picked up.
