Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a process for fitting a ship- borne main crosshead engine on a foundation. The process according to the present invention is characterized in that firstly an engine stand 2 is placed on a foundation 1 into a predetermined position through the vertical displacement of crossbeams 4, 5, 6 belonging to the foundation frame 3 of the engine stand 2 by means of supporting members 12, 13 and 14 respectively, which are to be placed beneath the respective crossbeams, and secondly the engine stand 2 is then locked on the foundation 1 by means of intermediate elements, in the adjustment of the engine stand 2 the supporting members 12, 13, 14 being brought to lie beneath the outer crossbeams 4, 5 and the centremost crossbeam 6 belonging to the foundation frame 3 of the stand 2 and, through the vertical displacement of at least one of the crossbeams 4, 5, 6, the engine stand 2 being bent out until, at one of the throws of a crankshaft 8, a positive, vertical gap has been obtained which is 1.5 - 3 times greater than the limit value of the mounting gap for the engine of given type.
