1282076 N-vinyl-quinolones BOEHRINGER MANNHEIM GmbH 19 April 1971 [13 March 1970] 23663/71 Heading C2C Novel N-vinyl quinolones of the Formula I wherein one of R 1 and R 2 is hydrogen and the other together with R 3 is a 1,3-propylene; R 4 is hydrogen or C 1-5 alkyl and Y is hydroxy, unsubstituted or substituted amino or C 1-5 alkoxy and pharmacologically compatible salts thereof may be prepared by (a) when R 4 #H, rearrangement of an N-allyl quinolone II wherein R 5 is hydrogen or an alkyl group with one less carbon atom than R 4 , by the action of a strong base; (b) condensing a quinolone III with a compound of the Formula IV wherein X and Z are active residues or together are oxygen or sulphur, thus splitting off ZH and subsequently eliminating X and an a hydrogen atom. Pharmaceutical compositions of the compounds I show antibacterial activity in vitro and in vivo when administered with a solid or liquid diluent.
