The invention comprises 2-(21, 41, 61-trimethylbenzyl)-1, 3-diazacyclopentene-(2); and its non-toxic acid addition salts; and its preparation by reacting 2, 4, 6-trimethyl-phenyl-acetic acid, or a functional derivative thereof, with ethylene diamine or an acid addition salt thereof. ALSO: Pharmaceutical or toilet preparations comprise 2 - (21,41,61 - trimethyl - benzyl) - 1,3 - diazacyclopentene-(2) or non-toxic acid addition salts thereof together with a carrier or e excipient. Pharmaceutical preparations have a mucosal de-swelling action, and topical administration of nasal drops, sprays and ointments is mentioned; a germicide, for example phenyl mercury borate, may be incorporated. Toilet preparations have a pilo-erecting action, and pre-shave preparations, for example lotions, soaps and creams, are described.
