The arrangement (30) is designed such that an origin of a new fiber web is directed by gravitational force along a web course for a normal operation at the arrangement. The arrangement functions in such a manner that running of an old fiber web (W') from the web course is deviated in the normal operation, so that overlapping of the old fiber web on a web guide roller (55) of a slitter winder (10) is increased. The web guide roller is located on a vertical plane. A joining beam is fixedly positioned outside of the web course in the normal position. An independent claim is also included for a method for joining an old fiber web with a new fiber web in a slitter winder.
