Wood or timber is treated with a pesticidal microemulsion or other water-miscible formulation that has an average particle size of at most 200 nm. The treatment is particularly effective in protecting wood and timber against the common furniture beetle (Anobium punctatum), the house longhorn (Hylotrupes bajulus), the death watch beetle (Xestobium rufovillorum), dry rot (Serpula (merulius) lacrymans) and wet rot (Coniophora puteena).
