Zusammenfassung:The present invention relates to a graphitic carbon nitride material characterised by a C:N molar ratio between 2 and 6. It also relates to a method for preparing a graphitic carbon nitride material comprising: providing microalgal biomass in an aqueous medium, subjecting the biomass to a hydrothermal liquefaction process, isolating the insoluble solids resulting from the previous step, and subjecting the insoluble solids from the previous step to calcination. The invention further relates to the use of the graphitic carbon nitride material as a photovoltaic material and in a method for generating electricity. The invention also discloses a photovoltaic material.
