Un expansor de tejido (10) que comprende: una cubierta externa (12) configurada para retener un fluido; una cúpula de inyección (14) que comprende una región de tabique autosellante (18) dispuesta a través de dicha cubierta externa (12), dicha cúpula de inyección (14) adaptada para aceptar una aguja hipodérmica para llenar dicha cubierta externa (12) con fluido; un parche autosellante (16) dispuesto alrededor de dicha cúpula de inyección (14) y a lo largo de dicha cubierta externa (12), dicho parche autosellante (16) comprendiendo: una primera lámina (52) que tiene un primer perímetro de lámina (56) y que forma una primera abertura central (60); una segunda lámina (54) que tiene un segundo perímetro de lámina (58) y que forma una segunda abertura central (62); una arandela externa (64) dispuesta entre dichas primera (52) y segunda (54) láminas en dicho primer perímetro de lámina (56) y dicho segundo perímetro de lámina (58); y, una segunda arandela (66) dispuesta entre dichas primera (52) y segunda (54) láminas en dicha primera abertura central (60) y dicha segunda abertura central (62); en donde dicha primera lámina (52) y dicha segunda lámina (54) unen un espacio anular (76) formado entre dicha arandela externa (64) y dicha arandela interna (66), dicho espacio anular (76) lleno de un material autosellante. A method of making a self-sealing patch for a tissue expander implant includes providing a first sheet having a first sheet outer perimeter and a first sheet inner edge defining a first central opening, providing a second sheet having a second sheet outer perimeter and a second sheet inner edge defining a second central opening, aligning the first and second sheet outer perimeters and the first and second sheet inner edges, capturing an outer washer between the first and second sheet outer perimeters for attaching the first and second sheets together, and capturing an inner washer between the first and second sheet inner edges for attaching the first and second sheets together. The method includes spacing an inner perimeter of the outer washer from an outer perimeter of the inner washer to form a sealed annular space between the attached first and second sheets, and disposing a hydrophobic material within the sealed annular space.
