UN METODO PARA ADMINISTRAR AL OJO UNA FORMULACION LIQUIDA OFTALMICA, QUE CONTIENE UN LIQUIDO OFTALMICAMENTE ACEPTABLE Y OPCIONALMENTE UNA SUSTANCIA OFTALMOLOGICAMENTE ACTIVA, QUE SE CARACTERIZA PORQUE LA FORMULACION TIENE UNA VISCOSIDAD QUE VA DE 10{SUP,-3} A 1,0 PA.S Y UNA RESISTIVIDAD INFERIOR A 10{SUP,4} OHMIOS.CM Y PORQUE UN CHORRO DE LA FORMULACION SE EYECTA HACIA EL OJO, DESDE UNA BOQUILLA DE PULVERIZACION (12) SITUADA ADYACENTE A UN TRANSDUCTOR PIEZOELECTRICO O ELECTROMAGNETICO (7), PARA FORMAR UN CHORRO DE GOTITAS DE TAMAÑO UNIFORME, SEPARADAS POR IGUAL, SIN CARGAR, CUYO CHORRO DE GOTITAS SIN CARGAR ES DIRIGE A CONTINUACION PARA QUE PASE POR UN ELECTRODO DE CARGA (13) Y ASI INDUCIR UNA CARGA ELECTRICA EN CADA GOTITA DEL CHORRO, Y LAS GOTITAS CARGADAS DESCARGAN SU CARGA ELECTRICA AL QUEDAR A TIERRA AL ENTRAR EN CONTACTO CON EL OJO; Y APARATO DE PULVERIZACION ADECUADO PARA SU USO EN ESE METODO. A method of administering to the eye a liquid ophthalmic formulation, comprising an ophthalmologically acceptable liquid and optionally containing an ophthalmologically-active substance, characterized in that the formulation has a viscosity in the range 10 to 1.0Pa.s and a resistivity lower than 10 ohm.cm, and that a jet of the formulation is ejected towards the eye, from a spray nozzle (12) situated adjacent to a piezoelectric or electromagnetic transducer (7), to form a stream of uniformly-sized, equally spaced, uncharged droplets, the stream of uncharged droplets is subsequently directed past a charging electrode (13) to induce an electric charge on each droplet in the stream, and the charged droplets discharge their electric charge by earthing on contact with the eye; and spraying apparatus suitable for use in that method.
