Zusammenfassung:	The present invention relates to a multistage radical emulsion polymerization process for producing a novel emulsion polymer composition, resulting with discrete particles dispersed in water having a star like structure. The novel emulsion polymer of the present invention imparts knot-sealing capability to coating compositions for wood applications. The present invention also relates to use of said emulsion polymer as an indoor and outdoor coating on wood substrates as well as to the multistage process of producing such a polymer.
