The power generation system (120) includes a source of ammonia (140); an ammonia cracker (146) in fluid communication with the source (140) and decomposing the ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen; a separator (152) in fluid communication with the ammonia cracker (146), the separator (152) separating the hydrogen and nitrogen from the ammonia cracker (146), the separator (152) having a first outlet (156) for a first output including hydrogen and a second outlet (158) for a second output including hydrogen and nitrogen; a fuel cell (162) in fluid communication with the first outlet (156) of the separator (152), the fuel cell (162) using the hydrogen of the first output of the separator (152) and an oxidizing agent to generate electrical energy; and a thermal engine (172) in fluid communication with the second outlet (158) of the separator (152), the thermal engine (172) using the hydrogen of the second output of the separator (152) to generate mechanical energy. |
