The method comprisesproviding (402), by using a control unit (102), a digital output (104) representing a command to open the pneumatic actuator (100), said digital output (104) having an activation time point (300) and a deactivation time point (302),measuring (404), by using a sensor (106), a position as a function of time of the pneumatic actuator (100), thereby forming a position data set (108),extracting (406) a number of parameters by comparing the digital output (104) and the position data set (108), andindicating (408) the condition of the pneumatic actuator (100) based on the parameters extracted.
