GENERATION OF AN AUDIO STEREO SIGNAL

An apparatus comprises a plurality of audio beamformers (101) each of which generates a mono audio signal representing audio captured by a beam. An adapter (105) adapts each audio beamformer to capture an audio source and a direction determiner (109) determines a direction of audio captured by the beams. A generator (107) generates an intermediate stereo signal component for the mono audio signals in which the mono audio signal is positioned at a given position in the stereo image of the intermediate stereo signal component with the position depending on the direction of audio captured by the corresponding beam. A combiner (111) is arranged to generate the stereo audio signal to include at least some of the intermediate stereo signal components. A transmitter (113) may transmit the stereo signal to a remote source. The approach may provide an improved stereo image for, e.g. teleconferencing applications allowing facilitated or improved differentiation of speakers/audio sources.
