Disclosed is a rechargeable battery, preferably as a detachable power supply for a machine tool, comprising at least one energy storage cell and a connection device for detachably connecting the rechargeable battery to a machine tool, the connection device being provided with at least a first, a second and a third connection element. The connection device includes a holding and receiving unit having a substantially elongate chamber for at least partially receiving the first, second and third connection elements, the first and second connection elements being connected to the holding and receiving unit by means of at least one compensation element in such a way that a relative movement in at least one direction between the first and second connection elements and the holding and receiving unit can be compensated, and the first and second connection elements being connected to the third connection element in such a way that a relative movement in at least one direction between the third connection element and the holding and receiving unit can be compensated.
