Zusammenfassung:The invention relates to a process for preparing a mineral melt in a cupola furnace that comprises, in the hot zone where the melt collects, a plurality of ceramic support bodies, with at least one plasma torch providing heat energy to the furnace. The combination of the plasma torch and ceramic support bodies reduces or substantially eliminates the need for coke to be used in the furnace. This reduces the formation of environmentally harmful gasses, such as CO and CO2, in the off-gas of the furnace.
