METHOD FOR DETECTING THE POINTING OF A DIGITAL IMAGING DEVICE FOR RECOGNIZING VEHICLE LICENSE PLATES

It is disclosed a method for detecting the pointing of a digital imaging device for recognizing vehicle license plates. The method comprises receiving a plurality of digital images of a plurality of passing vehicles provided by the digital imaging device; for each received digital image, determining an in-formation indicative of the position of a license plate within the received digital image, so as to obtain a plurality of information indicative of license plate positions in the plurality of received digital images; based on the plurality of information indicative of license plate positions in the plurality of received digital images, determining a statistical distribution of license plate positions in a field of view of the digital imaging device; and detecting the pointing of the digital imaging device based on the statistical distribution of the license plate positions in the field of view of the digital imaging device.
