A battery monitoring method and a battery monitoring device is provided in the embodiments of the present disclosure. The battery monitoring method includes: obtaining a first difference value between a state of charge (SOC) of each of the plurality of cells and an average SOC of the plurality of cells according to first time information; obtaining a second difference value between the SOC of each of the plurality of cells and the average SOC of the plurality of cells according to second time information; determining self-discharge rates of the plurality of cells according to the first difference value and the second difference value; and sending prompt message when the self-discharge rates meet a preset condition. According to the battery monitoring method provided in the embodiments of the present disclosure, the self-discharge rate of the battery can be monitored, and the safety of usage of the battery is improved.
