A machine tool (100) includes a tooling holding portion (70) having an insertion opening for a tooling (60). The tooling (60) includes a tool holding portion (62) for holding a tool, and an HSK shank (64) that is to be inserted into the insertion opening. The machine tool (100) further includes a detection unit (45) for detecting physical information indicating a state of a gap between the tooling (60) and the tooling holding portion (70), and a control unit (50) for controlling the machine tool (100). The control unit (50) includes an acquisition unit (54) for acquiring the physical information from the detection unit (45) while the tooling (60) is mounted to the tooling holding portion (70), a determining unit (56) for determining, based on the acquired physical information, whether or not the tooling (60) is normally mounted to the tooling holding portion (70), and an execution unit (58) for executing predetermined processing if it was determined that the tooling (60) is not normally mounted to the tooling holding portion (70).
